7h radial distribution function

Schematic plot of the 7h radial distribution function r2R7h2 (R7h = radial wave function).

Schematic plot of the 7h orbitals radial distribution function.

For 7h-orbitals, the radial distribution function is related to the product obtained by multiplying the square of the radial wave function R7h by r2. By definition, it is independent of direction.

In addition to planar and conical nodes, h-orbitals (n > 6) display a number of radial nodes that separate the largest, outer, component from the inner components. The number of nodes is related to the principal quantum number, n. In general, the nh orbital has (n - 6) radial nodes, so the 7hh-orbitals have (7 - 6) = 1 radial node, as shown in the above plot. Radial nodes are evident, however, in the higher h-orbitals (8hh, 9hh, ...) but not in lower h orbitals 6h).
