Atomic orbitals: sp2 hybrid orbital electron density
"Dot-density" plot of a sp2 (2s + 2px + 2py) electron density function. Blue represents negative values for the wave functions and red represents positive values.
This page displays the electron density of a sp2 orbital constructed from a 2s + 2px + 2py combination as a "dot-density" diagram. High density of dots in a region denotes high electron density.
The form of the plot for the other two sp2 hybrids are identical, differing only in orientation.
You can use your mouse to manipulate the "orbital" in the "JSmol" image above.
