Atomic orbitals: 5g electron densityThis page addresses the 5gxy(x2-y2) and 5gx4 + y4 electron density functions. They are identical in appearance and differ only in direction. See below for links to images of the electron densities of the other 5g orbitals. "Dot-density" plot of the 5gx4 + y4 electron density function ψ5gx4 + y42. Blue represents negative values for the wave function and red represents positive values. This page displays the electron density of the 5gx4 + y4 orbital as a "dot-density" diagram. High density of dots in a region denotes high electron density. Using JmolYou can use your mouse to manipulate the "orbital" in the "Jmol" image above.
